Macro of the Month – December 2022 – DeleteOneWord
Deletes the word in which the cursor is standing
Welcome to the final newsletter of 2022. And a big thanks to everyone who signed up this year. I hope this newsletter has helped you discover useful macros. This month’s macro is a good companion to last month’s, PunctuationOff. I also welcome any thoughts about what you’d like to see the newsletter address in the new year.
DeleteOneWord
Whereas last month’s macro, PunctuationOff, streamlined deleting the next punctuation mark, this month’s macro streamlines deleting a word. Deleting a word is a simple task to perform. So why use a macro? DeleteOneWord eliminates the step of having to select the word with your mouse.
How it works: Place the cursor inside the word you want to delete and run DeleteOneWord. The cursor can also be standing outside the word adjacent to the first or last letter.
You can make deleting a word even more efficient by using the Alt+Right Arrow (PC) / Option+Right Arrow (Mac) shortcut to move the cursor to the next word you want to delete.
DeleteOneWord can be combined with a shortcut to advance the cursor,
eliminating even more use of the mouse.
Combine multiple macros and the shortcut to advance the cursor to edit a sentence
without having to touch the mouse.
To learn about PunctuationOff, consult last month’s newsletter.
When to use it: Run DeleteOneWord anytime you need to delete a word.
Why it’s useful: Frequent use of the mouse can make us susceptible to repetitive strain injuries. DeleteOneWord prevents wear and tear on your hand by eliminating having to select the word with the mouse before deleting it.
